Rise of Mechanica

Rise of Mechanica

During the height of the Thousand Years War, the once-mighty Dwarven Empire crushed the human and elven armies beneath the weight of their mechanical beasts of war, who were rumored to have been a sentient species of automata. Eventually, through the loss of magic and the over-mining of coal, these beasts would be left forgotten.  Scattered across the fields of Aetheria, these piles of machinery would become the catacombs of the Junkyard Cities.

Spark engineers were met with a small amount of success converting these ancient coal-burning machines to electric, but whatever sentience they may have once had never awoke within them. The fate of the machines would forever change the day that Aether was researched as a fuel source. This magical element pulsed through the circuits and gears of these machines and awoke the spark of life once again. Arisen with revenge in their mechanical hearts against all who had abandoned them, they fight for Aether with expected ferocity. To them, Aether is life.

The Mechanica have entire cities of junk at their disposal. They can rise from heaps of metal, utilizing a number of different parts and features to become as versatile as they need to be, and when finished they can simply collapse back into a pile of junk. To reflect this, Rise of Mechanica employs the use of various token creatures, creating a never ending army of expendable cannon fodder.
